Custom equipment covers, shields & access panels

Custom panels and covers for splash, dust, observation, and service access. Miami Makes develops the geometry, material, mounting, and opening method around existing equipment and the surrounding workspace.

Your project, in practical terms

From requirement to finished part.

Example requests show how design, fabrication, and delivery can fit together around your needs.

Can you make a removable clear splash shield around an existing machine?

Miami Makes can design a transparent shield with access openings, mounting brackets, removable sections, and drainage around the equipment. Candidate polycarbonate or acrylic sheets may start at 1/8–1/4 inch, with thickness and supports selected for span, exposure, and handling. We can develop the drawings from site measurements, provide a trial section or mounting pattern for fit review, and fabricate one shield or multiple sets for shipment across the United States.

Where we start. Send machine photos and dimensions, the splash source, liquid or cleaning chemistry, temperature, and required operator access. Clarify whether the shield only manages splash or must perform a machine-safety function, since impact containment, interlocks, and safeguarding require a separately defined design and verification scope.

Applications & construction options

Explore materials, dimensions, and details for each application. Dimensions below describe example configurations, not fixed limits or guaranteed specifications. We develop the final construction around your requirements.

01

Splash shields

Contain routine splash while preserving access to the operation.

Materials & fabrication
CNC-routed polycarbonate, compatible acrylic, HDPE, or polypropylene panels with brackets and seals selected for the liquid and cleaning process.
Dimensions & construction
Candidate sheets of 1/8–1/4 in can include returns, drain features, mounting slots, and removable sections. Span and impact exposure determine final thickness and support.
What determines the choice
Identify the liquid, concentration, temperature, splash direction, and wash procedure. Keep runoff away from electrical equipment and avoid pockets that retain contaminated liquid.
02

Transparent observation panels

Provide a view of equipment or a process through a fitted panel.

Materials & fabrication
Clear polycarbonate for impact-sensitive applications or acrylic where optical appearance and compatible exposure favor it. Hard-coated grades can be considered for abrasion.
Dimensions & construction
Starting sheets of 1/8–3/8 in with radiused corners, frame engagement, fastener clearance, and replaceable seals. Larger openings need support sized to the installation.
What determines the choice
Review impacts, scratching, cleaners, heat, glare, and thermal movement. Visibility alone does not make a panel suitable for projectile containment or machine safeguarding.
03

Dust covers

Protect idle equipment or sensitive areas from settled debris.

Materials & fabrication
Formed or assembled sheet plastic, aluminum panels, and printed interface components. Gasket and vent materials are selected for the equipment and exposure.
Dimensions & construction
Include cable exits, lift handles, removable panels, and clearance above controls. Thin-sheet concepts can use framing or folded edges for stiffness rather than excessive weight.
What determines the choice
Check heat dissipation, access frequency, dust paths, and cleaning. A close-fitting cover must not block required cooling or be treated as a tested ingress-rated enclosure.
04

Removable access panels

Replace improvised closures with repeatable service access.

Materials & fabrication
CNC-cut aluminum, polycarbonate, or suitable engineering sheet with purchased hinges, captive screws, quarter-turn fasteners, or handles.
Dimensions & construction
Candidate thicknesses of 1/16–1/4 in with perimeter overlaps, gasket lands, countersinks, and defined opening clearance. Match existing holes where practical. M4–M6 heat-set inserts in suitable thermoplastic mounting blocks can support repeated panel removal; M8 can be considered for larger connections with enough boss depth and surrounding material. Thin panels can fasten to these blocks rather than carry the inserts directly.
What determines the choice
Review stiffness, repeated removal, edge safety, electrical bonding where needed, and whether the panel affects guarding or ventilation. Keep loose fasteners out of equipment.
05

Equipment skirts & side panels

Close unused spaces or adapt the exterior of a machine to an installation.

Materials & fabrication
Aluminum, HDPE, or suitable panel products with brackets and replaceable edge details. Finish can match maintenance and appearance requirements.
Dimensions & construction
Define ground clearance, service openings, supports, and modular panel sizes. Candidate sheet thicknesses of 1/16–1/4 in follow span, impact, and fastening method.
What determines the choice
Preserve ventilation, drainage, inspection visibility, and access to isolation points. Avoid adding inaccessible areas that accumulate debris or prevent maintenance.
06

Protective instrument covers

Shield instruments during storage, handling, or nearby work.

Materials & fabrication
Printed polymer shells, fitted polycarbonate panels, or aluminum covers with compatible foam or elastomer contact points. Transparent windows can retain visibility.
Dimensions & construction
Develop standoffs, cable reliefs, latches, handles, and internal clearances from the instrument. Support the cover independently of delicate controls or probes.
What determines the choice
Check heat if the instrument remains powered, contact sensitivity, cleaning chemicals, and accidental loads. Covers should not press on optics, adjustment knobs, or calibration-sensitive parts.
07

Process partitions & local barriers

Separate adjacent work areas from routine splash, chips, or contamination paths.

Materials & fabrication
Polycarbonate, compatible plastic sheet, or aluminum panels in purchased framing, with custom mounting brackets and removable sections.
Dimensions & construction
Define panel height, base footprint, overlap, working openings, and cleaning access. Thickness and frame spacing follow the exposure and installed size.
What determines the choice
Establish the actual hazard and required protection before selecting construction. Routine process partitions and safety-rated barriers require different verification and responsibilities.

Design is part of the engagement

Help defining it.
Help making it.

We can measure an existing installation, define the access and protection requirements, and develop a panel assembly around the equipment. A fit trial can resolve openings, mounting, service motion, and interference.

Design and documentation can stand alone, continue through our fabrication work, or support production by a specialist facility.
